The Boston College Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History and the Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI) have opened applications for their Joint Visiting Researcher Fellowship for the 2026–2027 academic year. The program is intended for full-time faculty members and researchers based at universities or research institutions in Asia.

According to the host, the six-month fellowship will bring selected scholars to Boston to conduct independent research using the extensive collections of both institutions. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and be employed full-time at an Asia-based academic or research institution. Scholars in the humanities and social sciences are eligible to apply.

Priority consideration will be given to projects focusing on the history and cultures of East Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Fellows will also receive visiting researcher privileges at both Boston College and Harvard University.

The Ricci Institute includes over 150,000 volumes and over 500,000 digital and archival materials, with particular strengths in Christianity in East Asia and Sino-Western cultural exchange. The Harvard-Yenching Library, with 1.6 million volumes in East Asian languages, is the largest academic library for East Asian studies in the Western world.

Applications are due on December 5, 2025, and must be submitted online. An online information session on the fellowship and application procedures will be held on November 19, 2025.
